Teaser Tuesday: March 15th 2016

Happy Tuesday – hope it’s a SUPER one too (go vote if that applies to you!)  Having some computer issues lately, missed you all last week (and way behind on reviews again) – but hope to be up and running again soon and hopefully with some new blog content (not book related – but purpose related) – yay!

Loving the book I’m reading this week – No One Knows by J.T. Ellison – a NetGalley read releasing next Tuesday (3/22/16).  Almost done and still not sure where it is going to go!

And I’m throwing in 2 teasers this week – mainly because I thought the first one was just a good line – teaser or not!!

What was it about moments, the ones that start with a capital M, that made you notice each and every detail?

Hiding the truth from herself wasn’t going to work anymore.  She didn’t want to drag herself through it all again, but she’d be damned if she would miss an opportunity to find out exactly what had happened to Josh.

Book Description:

In an obsessive mystery as thrilling as The Girl on the Train and The Husband’s Secret, the New York Times bestselling coauthor of the Nicholas Drummond series will make you question every twist in her page-turning novel—and wonder which of her vividly drawn characters you should trust.

The day Aubrey Hamilton’s husband is declared dead by the state of Tennessee should bring closure so she can move on with her life. But Aubrey doesn’t want to move on. She just wants Josh back. It’s been five years since he disappeared, since their blissfully happy marriage—they were happy, weren’t they?—screeched to a halt and Aubrey became the prime suspect in his disappearance. Five years of emptiness, solitude, loneliness, questions. Why didn’t Josh show up at his friend’s bachelor party? Who anonymously sent Aubrey her favorite cocktail at the bar where Josh stood her up? Was he murdered? Did he run away? And now, all this time later, who is the mysterious and strangely familiar figure suddenly haunting her new life?

As her heroine faces the possibility that everything she thinks she knows about herself, her marriage, and her husband is a lie, New York  author J.T. Ellison expertly peels back the layers of a complex woman who is hiding dark secrets beneath her unassuming exterior. In a masterful thriller for readers who love Gillian Flynn, Liane Moriarty, and Paula Hawkins, Ellison pulls you into a you’ll-never-guess merry-go-round of danger and deception. Round and round and round it goes, where it stops…no one knows.

Teaser Tuesday: February 9th 2016

Happy Tuesday!

This week’s read falls into my favorite category of mystery/thriller.  And although I’m almost finished with this book, like 80%+, it still remains a complete mystery to me.  I’m worried there won’t be enough time to get all the answers I need!  We’ll see though.

It’s a NetGalley read called Baggage by S.G. Redling and it releases TODAY!!  Very exciting.  Review coming very soon.

“If I had just come home and found that waiting for me?  Well, I still would have gotten destroyed, but I would have gotten rage drunk.  Or worse, weepy drunk.  Every drop of wine would have tasted like tears and loneliness and I’ve had enough of that.”

Book Description:

Over the years, terrible things keep happening to Anna Ray on February 17. First, there was the childhood trauma she’s never been able to speak about. Then, to her horror, her husband killed himself on that date.

A year later and a thousand miles away, Anna tries to find solace in the fresh start of a new job in a new place. She takes comfort in her outspoken cousin Jeannie, the confidant and best friend who’s there whenever she needs help. On the day of the dreaded anniversary, Anna and Jeannie hit the town, planning to ease the pain with an alcohol-induced stupor and then sleep…

When Anna awakes the next morning, she thinks she can put one more February 17 behind her, but fate is about to intervene in the form of two gruesome murders with eerie similarities to her violent past. This time, however, she won’t be an abandoned daughter or a grieving widow. This time, she’ll be a suspect.

Teaser Tuesday: February 2nd 2016

Better late than never as I’m really trying to keep up my blog this year!  Happy Tuesday!  And Happy Groundhog Day!  (An early spring has been predicted here!)

This week I am reading A Cure for Madness by Jodi McIsaac which released January 19th 2016.  Another terrifying read – although Find Her will be hard to tops in terms of that!

“I wished I could freeze time.  I’d read the books, seen the TV shows.  When someone called late at night and warned you they had difficult news, it always meant that your life was about to change in a horrible, irreversible way – and there was nothing you could do to stop it.”

Book Description:

Clare Campbell has worked hard to create distance between herself and her troubled family. But when she receives news of her parents’ murder, she’s forced to return to the quiet town of Clarkeston, Maine, to arrange their funeral and take legal guardianship of her unpredictable and mentally ill brother, Wes.

While Clare struggles to come to grips with the death of her parents, a terrifying pathogen outbreak overtakes the town. She is all too familiar with the resulting symptoms, which resemble those of her brother’s schizophrenia: hallucinations, paranoia, and bizarre, even violent, behavior. Before long, the government steps in—and one agent takes a special interest in Wes. Clare must make a horrifying decision: save her brother or save the world.

I’m super excited about the book I started this week.  It is called Find Her, by Lisa Gardner and it releases 2/9/16.  Ms. Gardner also happened to write one of my favorite books from 2015 – Crash & Burn.

The book dove right into being terrifying and seems to gaining momentum.  It already has me hooked – can’t wait to see where it goes!

“When I wake up, the sun is gone, my room is dark, and I know immediately that I’m not alone.  I can feel a draft against my cheek, the muted hush of an intruder’s shuffling footstep.”

Book Description:

Flora Dane is a victim.

Seven years ago, carefree college student Flora was kidnapped while on spring break. For 472 days, Flora learned just how much one person can endure.

Flora Dane is a survivor.

Miraculously alive after her ordeal, Flora has spent the past five years reacquainting herself with the rhythms of normal life, working with her FBI victim advocate, Samuel Keynes. She has a mother who’s never stopped loving her, a brother who is scared of the person she’s become, and a bedroom wall covered with photos of other girls who’ve never made it home.

Flora Dane is reckless.

. . . or is she? When Boston detective D. D. Warren is called to the scene of a crime—a dead man and the bound, naked woman who killed him—she learns that Flora has tangled with three other suspects since her return to society. Is Flora a victim or a vigilante? And with her firsthand knowledge of criminal behavior, could she hold the key to rescuing a missing college student whose abduction has rocked Boston? When Flora herself disappears, D.D. realizes a far more sinister predator is out there. One who’s determined that this time, Flora Dane will never escape. And now it is all up to D. D. Warren to find her.

Teaser Tuesday: January 12th 2016

Happy Tuesday!

Back again with my current read.  Still way far behind on reviews – but something to keep the blog up-to-date.

This week I’m reading The Moonlit Garden by Corina Bomann, one of the Kindle First January Selections releasing 2/1/16.  I’m about 2/3rds of the way through and I’m really enjoying it.  I’d describe it as a pretty mystery. Not dark like my normal reads, but still intriguing as the mystery of this violin is traced back from its current owner.  And my teaser today I thought was good advice for everyone!

“The important thing is that, whatever rubbish the world throws at you, you don’t lose heart, and you make sure you always find a way to rid yourself of the bad stuff.”
(10% into book)

Book Description:

Lilly Kaiser had come to terms with her solitary, uncomplicated life after becoming a young widow. So when a stranger delivers an old violin to her Berlin antiques shop and tells Lilly it belongs to her, she’s completely bewildered. Why should she be the one to inherit such an exquisite instrument?

Together with her best friend, Ellen, and handsome musicologist Gabriel Thornton, Lilly sets out to explore the violin’s legacy. From England to Italy to Indonesia, she follows its winding trail. Along the way, she learns of Rose Gallway, a beautiful woman of English and Sumatran descent who lived among Sumatra’s lush gardens more than a hundred years earlier. A celebrated and sought-after musician, Rose once owned Lilly’s violin and regularly played concerts for Sumatra’s colonial elite—until, one day, she simply disappeared.

As Lilly unravels the mystery behind Rose’s story—and uncovers other unexpected secrets—she’ll come to see her own life in an entirely new light. And as each shared discovery brings her closer to Gabriel, her heart might finally break its long-held silence.

Teaser Tuesday: January 5th 2016

Happy New Year!!

I could begin with a thousand excuses as to where I have been, but I won’t.  The good news is that I still have been reading and will work on a catch up post (someday?)  But I did start the year with a good one – like stay up till midnight – need to know what happened – good one.  So I’ll tease that one today!

It is a NetGalley read from Summit Lake by Charlie Donlea* (click on book or see description below) and it releases January 26, 2016.

“Maybe those things would have prevented the year from unfolding the way it had.  Maybe nothing would have changed.”
60% into book

Book Description:

Set in a small, picturesque North Carolina town, Charlie Donlea’s suspenseful debut novel tells the haunting story of a murdered law school student, the reporter assigned to her story—and the intimate connection that comes when the living walk in the footsteps of the dead.

“No suspects.  No persons of interest.  Just a girl who was alive one day and dead the next.”

Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place, with charming stilt houses dotted along the pristine water. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student, was brutally murdered in one of those houses. The daughter of a powerful attorney, Becca was hard-working, accomplished, and ambitious. Now, while the town reels with grief and shocked residents gather to share their theories, the police are baffled.

At first, investigative reporter Kelsey Castle thinks of the assignment as a fluff piece. But the savagery of the crime, and the determined efforts to keep the case quiet, all hint at something far more than a random attack by a stranger. As Kelsey digs deeper, pushing on despite danger and warnings, she feels a growing connection to the dead girl. And the more she learns about Becca’s friendships, her love life—and the secrets she was keeping—the more convinced she becomes that learning the truth about Becca could be the key to overcoming her own dark past…

Book Description:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling creator of the acclaimed Alex Delaware series comes a tour de force standalone novel that illustrates perfectly why “Jonathan Kellerman has justly earned his reputation as a master of the psychological thriller” (People).

A brilliant, deeply dedicated psychologist, Grace Blades has a gift for treating troubled souls and tormented psyches—perhaps because she bears her own invisible scars: Only five years old when she witnessed her parents’ deaths in a bloody murder-suicide, Grace took refuge in her fierce intellect and found comfort in the loving couple who adopted her. But even as an adult with an accomplished professional life, Grace still has a dark, secret side. When her two worlds shockingly converge, Grace’s harrowing past returns with a vengeance.

Both Grace and her newest patient are stunned when they recognize each other from a recent encounter. Haunted by his bleak past, mild-mannered Andrew Toner is desperate for Grace’s renowned therapeutic expertise and more than willing to ignore their connection. And while Grace is tempted to explore his case, which seems to eerily echo her grim early years, she refuses—a decision she regrets when a homicide detective appears on her doorstep.

An evil she thought she’d outrun has reared its head again, but Grace fears that a police inquiry will expose her double life. Launching her own personal investigation leads her to a murderously manipulative foe, one whose warped craving for power forces Grace back into the chaos and madness she’d long ago fled.

Teaser Tuesday: July 14th

Where is the time going??  Fast and slow at the same time – fast that it is already mid-July and school starts up again in a month.  Slow in that we are still without a kitchen, but seem to be on the more fun side of things now as our cabinets are going in!!

I’ve been reading – just slower.  And no books have really stood out.  I’m so far behind on reviews right now – I think I’m due a “catch-up” post.  But I did start a new one this week.  A July Kindle First read.  Crooked Little Lies by Barbara Taylor Sissel releasing August 1, 2015. (Click on book or see below for description.)  Doesn’t have me hooked just yet – but we’ll see – it’s still quite early!

“Why hadn’t she asked him what was wrong?  Why hadn’t she slid in beside him and put her arms around him?  She bit her lip.  How many times in that single afternoon, after she’d spoken to him in her brittle, authoritarian voice, had he told her he was sorry; he would do better, he promised.  But just listen, he’d said, I heard talking…
