Teaser Tuesday: November 25th

How is already Tuesday again?!  Better late than never and holiday week is my excuse!!  (Happy Thanksgiving!)

I’m still reading the same book as last week.  I can’t remember when it’s taken me more than a week to read a book – should be finished this evening and this has a very interesting story line that has me guessing and hanging on to each word!  Have you figured it out yet?  (another bonus teaser!)

End of Secrets by Ryan Quinn.  My November Kindle First pick. (click on book or see below for description), releases December 1st!

“You have no reason to trust me, so I won’t ask you to.  Just as I have no reason to trust you,” he said.  “In a way, we are both undercover, and that makes trust impossible.  I hope someday we can meet again when the circumstances are different.”

Book Description:

Though her specialty is foreign cyberterrorism, CIA agent Kera Mersal finds herself plunged into a bizarre domestic case. Singers, writers, and artists are disappearing, leaving no trace in a world where everyone leaves a digital footprint. Posing as a journalist, Kera attempts to track the artists’ last-known movements.

On a hunt that takes her from the underground art scene to a rogue domestic spying program, Kera finds her investigation on a deadly collision course with ONE Corp., the world’s largest multimedia conglomerate. As she’s drawn deeper into the investigation, she discovers that an enigmatic young ad exec, a wealthy playboy, and a mysterious website may connect the missing artists and ONE’s growing power. And with each discovery comes confirmation of a terrifying truth—no one’s secrets are safe.

A smartly suspenseful and timely thriller, End of Secrets dives into the depths of our culture’s two most relentless obsessions: entertainment and profit.

Now back to the real world – trying to get ready for Thanksgiving, LM’s birthday, Christmas, then LL’s birthday all in the next 6 weeks!!  But reading keeps me sane (as one of the blogs I follow calls themselves) – so ofcourse I am reading through it all!  I’m 2 reviews behind, but just started a new 2 nights ago.

End of Secrets by Ryan Quinn.  My November Kindle First pick. (click on book or see below for description)

” He told us that in the future, perhaps the near future, power in the world would lie with those who could amass the most information and have the ability to organize it with a few strokes of a touch screen.  ‘Perfect information about the past and the present contains the very instructions to build the future.’  That’s another quote I recall. This information was out there, he said, as it had always been,  It needed to be collected.  When ONE accomplished that, he said, it would be the end of secrets.”

This week’s book is a newer release that I’ve had in my NetGalley queue for way too long (so long that I missed its release date – oops!) But one that’s been on my list as it takes place in one of my favorite eras!  It’s An American Duchess by Sharon Page.

“Suddenly, he saw what Miss Gifford was already bringing into his household.
The bloody modern world.
He didn’t want it here.”

Book Description:

At the height of the Roaring Twenties, New York heiress Zoe Gifford longs for the freedoms promised by the Jazz Age. Headstrong and brazen, but bound by her father’s will to marry before she can access his fortune, Zoe arranges for a brief marriage to Sebastian Hazelton, whose aristocratic British family sorely needs a benefactor.

Once in England, her foolproof plan to wed, inherit and divorce proves more complicated than Zoe had anticipated. Nigel Hazelton, Duke of Langford and Sebastian’s austere older brother, is disgraced by the arrangement and looks down upon the raucous young American who has taken up residence at crumbling Brideswell Abbey. Still reeling from the Great War, Nigel is now staging a one-man battle against a rapidly changing world—and the outspoken Zoe represents everything he’s fighting against. When circumstances compel Zoe to marry Nigel rather than Sebastian, she does so for love, he for honor. But with Nigel unwilling to change with the times, Zoe may be forced to choose between her husband and her dreams.
